    Notes:

On his Russian Internal Passport and Army Discharge papers they indicated his height was judged by sight to be 2 arshine 3.

There are 16 vershoks in one arshine and that one vershok is about 4.445 cm or 1.75 inches.
2 arshines plus 3 vershoks comes to 61-1/4 inches or 5 feet 1-1/4 inches.

On his naturalization papers his height is indicated to be 5 feet 4 inches.

1897 All Russian Census indicated that he was living with his family at house number 10 on Dvoryanskaya Street, Rezekne. The house was wooden and covered by wood and there was only one dwelling in the house.

The census indicated that he was 17 years old, born and registered in Rezekne, literate, learned in Jewish people school, at father, trade assistant in the shop of iron.

September 9, 1927, Nathan, Abe's twin brother, obtained a birth certificate indicating that they were born on March 2, 1880, sons of Rezekne citizen, Genech Girsh Leizerov Gurvitch and his wife Basheva. Two sons were born, Aba-Rafael and Nota.

    Notes:

He was a coal miner, a union leader and later in life a carpinter and general contractor. According to his daughter Mary Lois Peck he invented some gizmo which helped the coal miners tremendously. She says he was creative, and very good at math.

Per death certificate signed by Red J. Evans, MD, dated 3 Sep 1963, he died at age 66 at the Vermillion Co Hospital on 29 Aug 1963. Cause of death - Coronary Occlusion. He was taken to Frist's Funeral Home in Clinton, IN and buried on 30 Aug 1963 at the Riverside cemetery in Clinton, IN. His death is recorded in book No. 4 Page 9 Certi. No. 41.

In a note to some of her cousins, Susan Richter-Beckley, wrote on 13 May 2007:
Bonny, you may remember his two-toned green Pontiac panel truck. That was his vehicle for all his travels in those years. The inside of it smelled like Geritol and dog food. He kept hunting dogs in Clinton. When his health began to fail, he went back to Clinton and stayed.

I knew what Geritol smelled like because he used to drink it in the house, too. It was gross.
He'd come visit us and stay for about 3 weeks each time. My mother used to say she couldn't get anything done while he was there, but she never shooed him out of the kitchen, where he would sit all day talking and talking and talking. And drinking coffee and rolling cigarettes and smoking And talking. That's how I got to know him some, because while he was talking, I was listening. I wish I could remember more of what he said, but it's been a long time.

(Note from Dave Howard: For those of you who are too young to remember, Geritol was a much-advertised elixir for older people. Its combination of vitamins and other healthy items restored youthful vim and vigor.)

In a note to some of her cousins on 14 May 2007, Susan Sladden wrote:

I was only 7 years old when Roy died but all these things that Susan has said here seems accurate to me. The way I understood things was that once my mother [Joan Wilma Peck] married my father and they moved with my mother's son, Tom, to Georgia, Roy left Lois. My mother never moved out of her parent's home until then, (except when she lived with her half sister, Miki/Mildred, until Lois and Roy followed to FL). So she was 25 when she married my dad and they moved away for him to go to seminary college in Decatur, GA. Tom was nearly 6 years old by then and had of course, lived with my mom and her parents. After they left, there was no one left in the house but Lois and Roy and I don't think they were ever too crazy about each other.

In the 4 years that we (my mom became immediately pregnant with me), were away from FL, I don't think that Lois ever visited us in GA, AL or VA. Roy did though. I think he best understood my mother and her problems and when she was in a good mental state, he greatly enjoyed her company. He was also very close always to Tom who at some point began taking him for weeks at a time during the summers to go hunting, etc. I remember his old station wagon also as he came to stay with us at least several times a year, primarily to care for my mom. Jimmy and Janet did this also.

  1. 8.  Henoch Hirsch Horwitz/Gurevitch/GurvichHenoch Hirsch Horwitz/Gurevitch/Gurvich was born in 1838 in Horwitz Family Residence, Rezekne, Latgale, Latvia (son of Getzel Leiser Horwitz/Gurewitsch and Itka); died on 18 May 1909 in Horwitz Family Residence, Rezekne, Latgale, Latvia.

    Notes:

According to Aunt Bessie, her father was in the timber business, where they cut the trees and floated them down the river. She said he was in business with his father and his brothers and that they were well off.

She said her father's family was originally from Moscow. I had assumed this was Moscow, Russia. However, I have discovered that there is a district in Riga along the edge of the river named Moscow and it was an area occupied by Jewish people. They would gather up the timber that had been floated down the river.

Riga is not on the Baltic Sea but on the banks of the River Daugava and was a major export center for timber. Ships came from Briton so freqently there was a large Church of England cathedral in Riga for the crews. Ships also came from France to pick up wood.

The Daugava was a very important river that served as a gateway to Central Europe from the Baltic Sea. The Swedes at one time had a major presence in Easter Europe and controlled the Baltics. They viewed access to the Daugava as strategic.

Today the Daugava defines a portion of the border between the countries of Latvia and Lithuania. The second largest city in Latvia is Daugavpils which is a key inland port on this river. When this area was part of Russia the city was named Dvinsk and had a very substantial Jewish population.

Daugavpils is about half way between the very important city of Vilnius, Lithuania about 100 miles to the south. Vilnius was known as Vilna during the era of Polish and Russian dominance and was the capital of the Jewish sub-Polish state in the Lithuanian region. The city was governed by Jews.

Today Vilnius is the capital of Lithuania but has only a tiny Jewish population as a result of the very effective extermination of Jewish people in the Baltic region during World War II.

About 100 miles to the north of Daugavpils lies the city of Rezekne, the capital of the Latgale Region, also a city with a large Jewish population. Our family comes from Rezekne but they clearly had Horwitz relatives in Daugavpils and Riga to carry out their very important timber business.

He married again and Bessie did not get along with her new step-mother. Her family was living in Latvia.
Bessie did not know the name of the first wife. She had died many years before. Bessie was the daughter of the second wife who she said was Basheva Yaffa.
Bessie explained that the family paid for their relocation to America by working and saving. They also sold the family home and cows. They settled up with their step-mother and used what was left to go to Chicago.
Bob Schwartz has Bertha Louria as the wife of Henoch Hirsh. This is something we will have to work on.
The 1897 census stated that he was literate that he had been educated in the parish school and that the was etiher a flax merchant or timber merchant. Aleksandrs said it was difficult to read the text and there is only a sight difference between the way the two words are spelled. He though flax merchant might be a better translation. However, wood merchant would be consistent with what Aunt Bessie said his business was.

They were residing in a single family dwelling at house 10 on Dvoryanskaya Street in Rezekne, Latvia. The house was wooden and covered with wood.

He was apparently a hard working, wealthy, soft spoken (never used strong language)man. He was in business with his father and brothers. Their family was known for their financial success in the lumber business. Dave Howard Aug 2004.

    Name:
According to the 1897 All Russia census taken in the Rezekne area his name was listed as Gurevitch Genoch Girshev. The Girshev is the patronymic for son of Hirsch. Our researcher, Aleksandrs Feigmanis, notes that this is an error.

The Rezekne vital records entry at July 5, 1882, recording the birth of their son, Yeruchim (Reuben), shows his name correctly as Genoch-Girch Gurvitch, son of Getzel-Leizer Gurvitch. His wife was shown as Baseva, daughter of Morduch.

Because of all the different languages spoken and written in this region of the world the same name is written in many different ways in the official records. They are all the same name:

His first name was Henoch, Genoch, Henech, Genech they are all variations of the Bible prophet Enoch (English).

His second name was Hirsch, Hirsh, Girsh which are all versions of the same word meaning stag deer.

    Aug 2007

His last name was Gurevitch, Gurvitch, Gurevich, Hurwitsch, Horwitz, Horowitz

    Birth:
In the Rezekne Family List he is shown as 59 in 1896 which would make the year of birth 1838 which agrees with Aunt Bessie information.

Henoch married Basheva/Basseva Joffe about 1879 in Rezekne, Latgale, Latvia. Basheva/Basseva (daughter of Morduch Joffa) was born in 1857 in Druya, Disna District, Belarus; died about 1904; was buried in Horwitz Family Residence, Rezekne, Latgale, Latvia. [Group Sheet]

  2. 9.  Basheva/Basseva Joffe was born in 1857 in Druya, Disna District, Belarus (daughter of Morduch Joffa); died about 1904; was buried in Horwitz Family Residence, Rezekne, Latgale, Latvia.

    Notes:

My guess is that when they did the Rezekne Family List they only had the first and last wife and left out the middle wife. This will have to be verified.

    Birth:
Her first children (twin sons) were born in 1880 and her last children (twin daughters) were born in 1896. My guess is that she was probably born about 1857. She would have been 23 in 1880 and 39 in 1896. She apparently died a few years after giving birth to the twin daughters.(Dave Howard, Jul 2004)

    Name:
The Rezekne Family List shows her name as Brocha, daughter of Jankel and Second wife of Genech. She is shown as 45 in 1909 leading to a birth year of 1864. Could Brocha have been the third wife?

Bessie Horwitz gave her mother's name as Basheva.

    Died:
She died some time before Bessie left Rezekne because Henoch remmaried and had a third wife by the time she had left about 1908. We are using 1904 as an estimate. It is also assumed that she was burried in Rezekne. (Dave Howard, Jul 2004)

  3. 10.  Shmuel-Itskhok SagalovichShmuel-Itskhok Sagalovich was born in 1862 in Rakov, Minsk, Belarus (son of Hirsch Sagalovich and Unknown); died on 16 Jan 1934 in Rakov, Minsk, Belarus.

    Notes:

When he came to Chicago in the 1920's he lived with his daughter Sara and her husband Max. He did not always have a pleasant personality. He was bad tempered. Max was always kind to him. Max was one of his few friends and he really liked Max.

He would send money to his wife Sosha to buy a ticket to come to Chicago. She would spend the money on other things and never come.

He was an upholsterer. He developed Bell's palsy and went back to Rakov in 1927 to be with his wife.

    Name:
When he lived in Chciago he used the name of Isaac Segal. The name on his tombstone in Hebrew is Shmuel-Itskhok Sagalowitch son of Tvsi. The character alef could be translated as either an "A" or "O" so the name could be Sagalawitch or Sogolowitch. The family names used in the Minsk area were either Sagalovitch or Segalovitch. The more common surname in Rakov was Segalovitch. Accordingly, I am going with Segalovitch for now.

The tombestone shows his father's name as Tvsi which is the Hebrew word for deer. However, according to Alexander Baider, he probably never heard that name used. He would have been called the more common Yiddish word for deer, Hirsh. Since Isaac named one of his sons Hirsh it is likely this son was born after his grandfather's death and was named for his grandfather.

    Birth:
His tombstone says he was 72 years old at the time of his death that would make the year of his birth 1862.

    Died:
The tombstone says that he died on the 29th day of Tevet in the year 5694 or January 16, 1934.

Shmuel-Itskhok married Shoshe Levin in Rakov, Minsk, Belarus. Shoshe (daughter of Jacob Levin) was born about 1860 in Rakov, Minsk, Belarus; died on 15 Aug 1930 in Rakov, Minsk, Belarus. [Group Sheet]

  4. 11.  Shoshe LevinShoshe Levin was born about 1860 in Rakov, Minsk, Belarus (daughter of Jacob Levin); died on 15 Aug 1930 in Rakov, Minsk, Belarus.

    Name:
The death certificate for her daughter Rose gave her name as Shophie Lee. However, Lee is not a very likely surname. I spoke directly with Alexander Beider about this. He indicated that the most common Jewish last name in the area that started with the Lee sound was Lewin (Levine). This is the more likely last name. We will have to keep our eyes peeled for more information. Dave Howard, July 2005.

I buttonholed Alexander Beider at the Jewish Genealogy Conference in Las Vegas in 2005 and asked him what name Lee might have really been. He pointed out that there was a Jewish person with the last name Lee who won the Nobel Prize. However, he thinks it is most likely her name was Levin since that was such a common surname in the Minsk area.

Therefore, I have decided to show her name as Levin.
    Dave Howard - June 2006

From Alexander Beider's book A Dictionary of Ashkenazic Given Names I have extracted this information under the name Shoshane from the biblical Shin-Vav-Shin-Nun-Heh which in English is Susan. The name is derived from the identical Hebrew common noun meaning lily. This was not a common Ashkeazic gven name and was more commonly used by Christians.

Shoshane is the standar Yiddish form of the name however Shoshe was commonly used in 19th century Belorussia.

William married Mary Emaline Deal on 15 Feb 1880 in Clay City, Clay County, Indiana, USA. Mary (daughter of Isaac Wiseman Deal and Mary Jane Jones) was born on 27 Feb 1864 in Asherville, Clay County, Indiana, USA; died on 13 May 1919 in Perth, Indiana, USA; was buried in Perth Cemetery, Perth, Clay, Indiana, USA. 8. 15.  Mary Emaline Deal was born on 27 Feb 1864 in Asherville, Clay County, Indiana, USA (daughter of Isaac Wiseman Deal and Mary Jane Jones); died on 13 May 1919 in Perth, Indiana, USA; was buried in Perth Cemetery, Perth, Clay, Indiana, USA.

    Notes:

In the 1870 Census for Washington Township, Putnam County, Indiana there is a family with the father Isaac Deal age 32, occupation RR Hand; mother is Jane age 34 and two children Daniel age 8 and Mary age 4. This would indicate that Mary was born about 1866.

In the 1880 Census for Springfield Township, LaGrange County, Indian there is a family with the father Elisha Deal age 50, a farmer; the mother is Catherine age 43 and one child, a daughter Mary E age 16. This would indicate that Mary E was born about 1864. This record was found by our relative Karen Mills of Indianapolis. I found it on Ancestry.com.

Springfield, LaGrange County, Indiana is almost at the northern border of the State of Indiana and east of South Bend. It is about 255 miles from Putnam County. I believe that the Mary E of LaGrange is not our Mary. I believe the correct family is the Isaac Deal family of Putnam County were all our other relatives came from.

    Notes:

Claude Edgar Peck wrote: When I was about 15 years old [abt 1900], Grandfather, Daniel Webster Peck, visited us at Ehrmandale, [Vigo County], Indiana. His home at that time was at Helena, Arkansas and he told me of my forefathers, Peter Beck of Penn. Dutch. There were several families of Beck's and the mail would get mixed up, so Peter went to the court house and asked that his name be changed. The Judge asked him if Peck would do. Peter say "Yaw, dot is alright." So there is the beginning of our name.

Daniel seemed to have lived in a world of hyperbole as can been seen by the different stories he told the census takers over the years.

The Peck family is from England and they started by settling first in Providence, RI. -- Dave Howard 2022

I went to Jackson, Ohio and visited the property where he and Amanda had a home. He was listed at a clock repairman at that time. Jackson was famous for its wood fired steel making blast furnace.

In 1880 Federal Census for Helena, Phillips, Arkansas, D.W. Peck age 42, born about 1838 in Iowa was living with his wife May age 23. He said his father and mother were both born in Iowa. We was a brick mason. Others in the household were Suson McIntoush age 20, Winie Powell 2 and Heue Smith 9.

    Other Events:

    • Lived: 1866, Salem, Indiana, USA; According to Tax Records Daniel Webster Peck was in Salem, Indiana in 1866. I have assumed his family was with him. Dave Howard Aug 2009

    Notes:

    Birth:
Some family members say she was born in Jackson, Ohio where she was living in 1860 with Daniel Webster Peck and other Gillespies in town.

The family tree researchers have her brothers and sisters born in Gallia, Ohio. They show her as the daughter of Alexander Gillespie and Martha.

In the census record in Terre Haute her mother Martha was living with her. A family member says the Terre Haute obituary for Martha said she was the widow of William. The family members who show her married to William also have a last name for Martha of Dryer.

The more I look at the family history of Alexander Gillespie the less I feel he was the correct spouse. I am leaving him as William. However, I feel it is likely she may have been born in another city in Ohio other than Jackson. I have left her birth place as Gallia. I am not at all sure this is correct. I would appreciate any comments on this.

"Dear Mary, thought you would like to know about your great-grandfather, my father's father [James Harvey Senter (1820-1900)]. He was a wonderful man. He and Grandmother [Mariah M. Baker (1823-1910) made their home with us [in Asherville, IN] when I was a small girl, 10 to 12 years old. He was a Baptist Minister and in his old days he was a shoe cobbler. He mended all the children's shoes in the little village of Asherville. I used to stand beside his chair many days and watch him. and hand him the little wooden pegs he used to fix the shoes. His hair was as white as snow and he wore it real short, guess now days you'd call it a crew cut, so beautiful. He went to church every Sunday.

I sure did have a beautiful childhood, everybody doing so many interesting things. Grandfather owned a farm in Kentucky and he said there was a silver mine on it. When the Civil War was on the North and South he lost all he had and came North. He had a map of the silver mine but some how it was lost he told my father and his boys to go find it. But they never did, so I guess it is still there. Bro. Frank went down 2 years ago. But I guess he didn?t find out much about it he knows the town in Kentucky so when I see him again, I?ll ask him and write and tell you.

In those days, Kentucky was far far away from us. No way to get there only by horse and buggy or train."

She had to cut it and sew it all together and get straw and put it under it all colors and kind of checker board or striped, had to wrap the chain on stretchers. Was very interesting, when I was 14 years old, mother bought our first imported wool carpet and velvet couch. Gee, I thought we were rich.

I sure did have a beautiful childhood, everybody doing so many interesting things.

Grandmother often told me George Washington was her cousin. She came from Virginia her maiden name was Baker. In those days, Kentucky was far far away from us. No way to get there only by horse and buggy or train."

    Elder Drury Senter
    Elder Henry Vanover

    Abstract of [Primitive] Baptist Principles:

    1. We believe in one true and living God, Father, Son and Holy Ghost and that these three are one.

    2. We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are the words of God and the only rule of faith and practice.

    3. We believe in the doctrine of election by Grace.

    4. We believe in the doctrine of Original Sin, and in man's impotency to recover himself from the fallen state he is in by nature by his own free will or ability.

    5. We believe that sinners are called, converted, regenerated, and sanctified by the Holy spirit and that all who are thus regenerated or born again by the Spirit of God shall never fall finally away.

    6. We believe that sinners are justified in the sight of God only by the imputed righteousness of Jesus Christ.

    7. We believe that Baptism and the Lord's Supper are ordinances of Jesus Christ and that true believers are the subjects of these ordinances and we believe that the true mode of Baptism is by immersion.

    8. We believe in the resurrection and a general judgment and that the joys of the righteous and the torments of the wicked will be eternal.

    9. We believe that no minister has a right to administer the ordinances except such as are regularly called and come under the hands of the presbytery."

The following names appear on the membership roll of the church:

    Property

Drury received land grants in what was to be Grayson County in 1781, 1839, and 1840. These grants were on Piney Creek and New River. On February 4, 1841 Drury purchased from Elizah and Sarah Baker three tracts of land, totaling 520 acres on Wilson Creek and Beaver Dam Creek, a branch of Wilson Creek (Grayson County Deed Book #9 - Pages 422-23) .

Drury and Polly's house is vacant, but still stands beside Wilson Creek about a mile southwest of Mouth of Wilson on Route 16. It is unclear if they built the house, or if it was already standing when they moved to the property in 1841. The house has been added onto over the years, and could probably accommodate two families. Drury and Polly and some of their children are buried in the family cemetery on the hill above the house."

Virginia Marriages, 1740-1850: "Drewry [sic] Senter & Polly McClure, 29 Jun 1809, Washington, VA."

The religious ceremony may have taken place on 6 June and not been recorded at the court house until 29 June 1809. On the other hand, one or the other date may be incorrect.

In any case, note the spelling of his given name, "Drewry," which probably represents a phonetic pronounciation. Also, note that she married under her informal name, "Polly."

    Notes:

I was looking at the 1850 Federal Census Records for Washington Township, Putnam County, Indiana and I was checking out the family of Henley Mullinix, the first husband of Mary Jane Jones. I thought that he might have married a neighbor and I scrolled forward in the census record and found two Jones families. To me they looked like brothers. Nathan and Abagail Jones had a Mary Jane that was just the right age.

I have attached the census record. I then searched on this family and came across the family records of alloch from Tucson, Arizona at ancestry.com. I will attempt to contact him but I have created him as a source and I have picked up his information. I will have to confirm this but it all ties in with what I have from other sources so far.

The Catawba River Valley, Rowan County NC, became in 1777: Burke County NC, and became in 1779: Lincoln County NC, and finally in 1842: Catawba County, NC.

    Died:
William Deal's will was dated 19 November 1838 [Putnam, IN Book A p. 757-59]. His wife was listed as Eve and a son John was mentioned.

William married Eve Decker in Abt. 1798 in Lincoln County, North Carolina, U.S.A.. Eve (daughter of Christopher Decker and Elizabeth Unknown) was born in Abt. 1770 in Virginia; died in Aft. 1860 in Indiana, U.S.A.. [Group Sheet]

  15. 121.  Eve Decker was born in Abt. 1770 in Virginia (daughter of Christopher Decker and Elizabeth Unknown); died in Aft. 1860 in Indiana, U.S.A..

    Notes:

Which person is the daughter, "Eve" mentioned in the will dated 1807 and probated 1808 in Lincoln, County, NC, of Christopher Decker I13181 (Abt. 1855-1808) & Elizabeth (Unknown): Eve Decker I9132 (Abt. 1770-Aft. 1860, wife of William Deal) or Eve Ann Decker I39975 (Abt. 1795-1861, wife of Jacob Miller Julius)?

The differences in the information available are:

AGE--Eve (Decker) Deal b. Abt. 1770, Eve Ann (Decker) Julius b. Abt. 1795; If Elizabeth (Unknown) were born Abt. 1855, then either Eve Deal or Eve Julius could have been a daughter; also, both were alive when Christopher Decker wrote his will in 1807.

TIMELINE--Dates of Christopher Decker's land transactions in North Carolina: bought 29 Dec 1792; sold 3 Nov 1802.

Eve Ann Decker was born Abt. 1795 in Pennsylvania. It is unlikely that Chrictopher Decker and wife Elizabeth (Unknown) were in Pennsylvania during a ten-year period, when he was buying and selling land in North Carolina.

MARRIAGE PLACE--Eve Decker & William Deal were married Abt. 1798 in Lincoln County, NC. Eve Ann Decker & Jacob Miller Julius were married 31 Jan 1815 in York County, PA.

CHILDREN'S BIRTH PLACE--The first three of Eve Deal's children (John, Andrew, & Joseph) were born in Lincoln County, NC. None of the children of Eve Julius were born in North Carolina. The first three were born in Pennsylvania; the others were born in Pittsylvania County, VA.

It appears from the evidence above that Eve Ann Decker and her husband, Jacob Miller Julius, never lived in North Carolina. Thus Eve Decker, wife of William Deal, must be the daughter of Christopher Decker, Sr. of Lincoln County, NC.

Bob Jones, "Jacob Shook, The Man and His Legacy, Chapter III":

    http://www.shookhistory.org/ShookBook3.htm

"The original land grants on Lyles creek record the owners, Johan Baum in 1750 was the first recorded, Simon Yonoss (Jonas) and Hinrich Shrink, Phillip Hahn, Conrod Mull, Conrad Boobey and Johann Hagins appear soon after.

Then in 1753 the German United Brethren or Moravians purchased a huge tract of land in Lord Granville’s district, location undefined. They set out to determine the land they would select and brought a small team of surveyors across the Catawba to "look for the land". As guide they hired Johann Baum. Being duly impressed with the area between the South Fork of the Catawba and the Catawba proper they decided that this area, which included Lyle’s Creek, would be an ideal spot for their projected colony. John Carteret, Lord Granville set aside this huge parcel, as well as several others, for the Moravians and ceased to sell land there late in 1753.

For ten years the land lay under this reserve. The Moravians decided to place their colony at a less remote area which is today Forsyth County, NC in 1755, but the restriction still remained on the Catawba lands until 1763.

In that year the land was released and it seems that many German settlers had been living on the land in question without deed for up to ten years. In 1763 many of them came to the Land Office in Rowan County at Salisbury, a two-day walk away from home, and registered their claims.

The surnames from Lyle’s Creek include Henry Pope, George Schmidt (Smith), Jacob Wissenaut, Adam Aker (Eckard), Adam Bolch, Thomas Cowan, Peter Grunt, Michael Hart, Johan Haun, Andrew Killian, Isaac Lowrance, Peter Stutz, Christian Treffelstadt, Conrad, Joseph and William Whittenburg and William Fulbright. . . .

Then in late 1763 John Carteret, Lord Granville, died and his heirs in England closed the sale of his lands. It was 1778, 15 years later, before the office would open again, and many, many Germans had come to live on the unclaimed lands by then. In December 1778 8,900 acres were registered in Salisbury on Lyle’s Creek alone. Among these names we find Christopher Beekman (Jacob’s Capitan in the Cross Creek Campaign) Adam Bolick, George, Peter and William Deal, George Eslinger, Peter Gront, Frederick Gross, Devault Hunsucker, Johann Isonhower, Frederick Shull, Andrew Fulbright and . . . Johann (Hans) and Jacob Shuke (Shook). In that year Jacob was 29 years old."
