| Letter, 29 Nov 1844, from Gottlieb to Michael Janke (1811-1895), p. 1/2
"Translation of the letter from Gottlieb Janke to his brother Michael Janke, Jr. (The original had been in the possession of Elton Strack, a great grandson of Michael, Jr. Michael Janke, Jr. (1811-1895) was the father of Emil Janke.)"
"Königsberg the 29 November, 1844
Heartfeltly Beloved Brother
Your dear letter as well as the 3 _?_ have been received and I thank you heartily for them.
I have been very happy that all of you together with our dear parents are in good health. As for me, I am, thanks to our gracious God, active and happy.
Dear Brother, I would have answered immediately, but we had to take the letters to be censored, so I had to wait a long time to have them sent.
That the work for you has been overwhelming, I can really believe. I have thought of you often and wished I could be with you. However the time will pass with the help of god and we will be together again. God keep us all alive and well.
I commit all of you to God's protection , and greet you, the great sister-in-law, your dear children, our dear brothers and parents many thousand times over. Keep me constantly in loving memory, just as I will never let you out of my heart but will as long as I live remain,
Your loving brother,
Gottlieb Janke"

| Levi Thomas ( -1796) Will & estate
Mabel Dodele, "A Trace of Thomas (1984)," p. 246.
"Mason County was formed from Bourbon County in 1789; Bourbon had been formed from Fayette County in 1786.
Early records of Fayette Co were destroyed by fire in 1803. There is no record of a purchase by Levi in Mason or Bourbon counties, so we could assume that Levi purchased land before 1786. Since he would have to be 21 to make the purchase, he was probably born before 1765.
No record of a sale by Phineas has been found. 1790 Mason county Tax List shows James, but not Levi; 1793 Tax list shows Levi, but not James. Could this person have been Levi James or James Levi? 1793 tax list shows that Levi owned 50 A. of land.
25 April 1793: Levi made will, which establishes that he was a brother of Ephraim & Phineas.
24 May 1796: Will was probated." |

| Lewis Thomas (1826-1895) Probate record
Kentucky, Wills and Probate Records, 1774-1989:
The Administrator, "J.M. Wells," is likely Dr. John Milton Wells (1854-1912).
Find-A-Grave:
"Dr. John Milton Wells was born Jan. 4, 1854 in Nicholas County, KY to Daniel & Lucinda Colllins Wells. He was a physician and had an office, [but] was also a doctor who rode horseback to his patients. He was often paid by goods the patients had on hand."
The surety, "W.H. Thomas," is likely the deceased's oldest son, William Harrison Thomas |
