"The following obit for Earl appeared 30 Aug 1951 in a local newspaper:

Earl Richardson Bane, aged 59, of Leetown, died at 3:00 AM Saturday morning in the Charles Town General Hospital from injuries received with a bulldozer, while working on the State Road, near "Harewood" the days previous to his death. Born on March 15, 1892 in Jefferson County, he was a son of the late Zephania and Lena Belle Watson Bane and was a life-long resident of this county. Mr. Bane had been employed by the State Road Commission for the past twenty years and was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge if Charles Town. His wife died about seventeen years ago. Surviving are two daughters: Mrs. Eldridge Baker of Martinsburg and Cpl. Betty L Barrie serving with the U.S. Air Force in Houston, Texas; two sons. S Sgt. Earl R Bane Jr. at Macon, GA and S Sgt. Charles D Bane of Eglin Field, Elgin, Fla.; one brother, Roger Z Bane of Summit Point; three grand-children and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at Smith and Strider Funeral Home on Monday afternoon at 3:00 PM, conducted by the Rev. W.T. Richardson Methodist Ministries of the Jefferson Circuit. Interment followed at Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town."
