      On 10 Sep 1850, Hardin Jones (39) was a farmer in Washington Twp. (Putnam) IN with $2000 in real estate, living with Acenith Jones (40) and their children John G. (16), Martha E. (14), Amanda A. L. (13), Mary Jane (11), and Ruth E. (9). Acenith was illiterate. All the children attended school within the year. Lots of neighbors are family.

      On 12 Jan 1860, Abraham L. (28, farmer) and Martha E. (24) Jones lived in St. John Twp. (Harrison) IA with their children Mary E. (4), Sarah A. (2), and William R. (8/12). Abraham owned $2000 in real estate and had a personal estate worth $500.

      On 28 July 1870, Martha E. Jones (34, keeping house) lived in St. John Twp. (Harrison) IA, Missouri Valley PO, with her children Mary A. (13), Sarah A. (12), Wm. R. (11), Cenith A. (9), Emma A. (7), John R. (5), Albert H. (3), and Jane A. (11/12, b. Sept). All the children except the littlest two (Albert and Jane) attended school.

      On 26 June 1880, Marthey E. (44, keeping house) lived in St. John Twp. (Harrison) IA with her children William R. (20, farmer), Acenith A. (18), Emma A. (16), John R. (14), and Harden A. (12). William R.’s wife Sarah L. (18) also lived with the family. Acenith is listed as (deformed), idiotic, and unable to write. John and Harden were attending school.

      In 1885, Mrs. Marthy E. Jones (50, house keeping) lived on T[76?] R44 Sec. 33 SE SW, St. John Twp. (Harrison) IA with her children Cenith A. (23), John R. (11), and Albert H. (17).

He has his mother Elizabeth Jones age 70 born in Kentucky is living with him along with two children Samuel M Anderson age 10 born in Indiana and Ann E Owens age 17 also born in Indiana. Ann is listed as a servant.

      Thanks for your comments on Malinda (Mary) Jane Jones. She very well may be a phantom person. The evidence I have for her is primarily in the 1891 Biographical History of Pottawattamie County, Iowa (<http://iagenweb.org/pottawattamie/Bios1891-I.htm>).

      (Here's the relevant text: "He [Hardin Jones] was Judge of Pottawattamie County and took an active part in the political affairs of the community; was Justice of the Pace 21 years, Deputy Sheriff for several terms and held other official relations. He was a member of the regular Primitive Baptist Church and the clerk for 40 years. In his family were the following children: Malinda Jane, born May 26, 1833, and since died; John G., the subject of this sketch; Martha E., born January 11, 1836, married A.L. JONES (since deceased) and now resides in Harrison County this state; Amanda A.E., born April 29, 1837, married John A. REEL and they reside in Harrison County; Mary J. born November 16, 1838, married Joseph MOSS and they live in Rockford Twp, this county; Ruth A., born February 6, 1841, married John A. MACE and died, leaving 5 children; and Silas H. born July 26, 1847 and died in infancy."
