March 08, 2004, Missouri Valley Times-News
John Neal Jones, 81, died Feb. 5 in Fredericksburg, Tex.
John was born August 28,1922, in Missouri Valley to Crist Cox and Jay Velma (Neal) Jones. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army and served in the European Theater during WWII.
Following WWII, John completed his college education, graduating from the University of Missouri with a degree in journalism. He was later recalled to active duty during the Korean War, serving until 1953.
Upon leaving the Army, John worked as a journalist in Denver, Colo. and then for over twenty years as a purchasing manager for Brown & Root, Inc. in its Houston, Tex. and London, England offices.
John and his wife, Yvonne, moved to Kerrville, Tex. in 1992, after having retired briefly in Houston, Tex. and San Diego, Calif.
John was truly a part of America's "greatest generation," silently serving his country and working endlessly to provide for and support his loving wife and four children. While he rarely asked for anything from anyone, he gave all of himself to those individuals and organizations lucky enough to know him.
John is survived by his four children Neal and Roxanna Jones, granddaughters Angie and Alexandra, grandson Damian, all of San Jose, Costa Rica; Spence and Consuelo Jones, San Antonio, Tex.; Crist and Phyllis Jones, Austin, Tex.; Margaret Ann Barker, Stoke-on-Trent, England; and his sister-in-law, Ruth Margaret Hill, Houston, Tex.
John and his wife of over 50 years, Yvonne Hill Jones, who preceded him in death, were interred at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, Feb. 17.
