Obituaries
BARBARA A. GIFFORD
NEW BEDFORD, MA -- Barbara A. (Akin) Gifford, 66, of Fairhaven died Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. She was the widow of Lester H. Gifford.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Frederick and Eva (Harding) Akin, she lived in the city until she was 16 years old. She was a longtime resident of Maryland and Ohio. She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church of New Bedford.
Mrs. Gifford worked in property management for commercial real estate before her retirement. She enjoyed crafts, knitting and crocheting.
Survivors include a daughter, Debra S. Thomas and her husband, Robert, of Virginia; three sons, Wayne B. Gifford and his wife, Laura, of Maryland, Warren L. Gifford and his wife, Karen, of Mississippi, and Wynn T. Gifford and his wife, Paula, of Ohio; a brother, Raymond Akin of Florida; four sisters, Anna Martel, Margie Almeida, Ida Raymond and Lillian Alves, all of Fairhaven; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Tom Akin, Charlie Akin, Archie Akin and Bert Jenney.
Burial will be in Quantico National Cemetery, Quantico, Prince William County, VA."
