"RITES FOR J. P. CONES - John P., son of John G. and Mary Ann Bridgeford Cones, was born Dec 31, 1853 in Marion County, 9 miles north of Indianapolis, and departed this life February 17th, 1934 at the age of 80 years one month and 17 days. He came with his parents to Boone county in [typo - incorrect line of text inserted] town, which was called Willow Corner or Conesville. There he grew to manhood.
In 1880 he accepted a clerkship with Goldsmith of Danville, Vermilion County, IL. He was united in marriage with Eva B. Wells of Danville, March 28, 1888, who died Oct. 20, 1918. To this union was born two children, Walter Ray, now of Beloit, WI, and Mrs. Hazel Mae Burns, of California; both survive.
He leaves five grandchildren, two great grandchildren; three brothers, Albert B., J. Edward, and Charles W.; three sisters, Mrs. John C. Dukes, of Colfax; Emma A., and Florence Cones of this place. Two brothers, William M. and Samuel T., and two sisters, Mrs. Mary J. Wetherald and Nancy J. Crose preceded him in death. He was married a second time to Mrs. Nola Jones of Kentucky, who survives."
He was a member of the Emanuel Presbyterian church and several fraternal orders. Interment was in Springhill cemetery at Danville Ill."
