"He was one of the original members of the 29th Iowa Regiment, serving as a Private in Co. I. He enlisted 13 August 1862, in Panora, and was discharged 10 August 1865. He fought at Vicksburg, and was wounded at Helena, Arkansas. He was then detached for recruiting duty in Iowa. He later rejoined his regiment, and fought at Ft. Blakely."
