1870 census suggests birth year of 1863; everything else suggests birth year of 1867 or so. Would tend to believe the 1870 census, as the year given matches the birth order-- it would be hard to mistake a 3-year-old for a 7-year-old.
According to Clark Edwin Jones, Deal Jones is Clark Jones's half-brother. After Johnie Green Jones died, Martha Alvarett Deal married his brother Theodore. Deal Jones was their son. This doesn't fit with the birth dates given for Clark (1892) and Deal (1890), however.
Siloam Springs AR is the last place Clark Edwin Jones knows this couple lived. But given that Johnie Green Jones died in IA, maybe he meant Martha Alvarett Deal and Theodore Jones.
On 26 July 1870, J. E. (46, farmer) and Hannah (43, keeping house) Deal lived in St. John Twp. (Harrison) IA, Missouri Valley PO, with their children Isaac (22, farm laborer), John (19, works on farm), Timothy (15, works on farm), Jane (12), Hannah (10), Jemima (8), Martha (7), Jacob (6), and Eli (7 mos.). Also in the household: Sarah Case (63?, boarding). Jane, Hannah, Jemima, and Jacob were attending school. J. E. owned $2400 in real estate and had a personal estate worth $2200.
On 30 June 1880, James E. Deal (56, farmer) and Hanah [sic] (53, keeping house) lived in St. John Twp. (Harrison) IA with their children Hanah [sic] (20), Jemiah [sic] (18), Jacob J. (15), Martha (13), Eli (10), and Harvey (8). All were listed as illiterate. Jacob, Martha, Eli, and Harvey attended school within the year.
1891 resident of (Pottawattamie) IA.
On 6 July 1900, Theodore (41) and Martha A. (33) Jones lived with their children and step-children on a farm they owned free in Cleveland Twp. (Dewey) OK. Archie R. was about 18 (illegibile), Vangie(?) was 15, Flossie was 11, Parks was 8, Foster was 5, Deal (stepson) was 9, and Clark (stepson) was 7. All could read and write except for the youngest, Foster. Theodore was a farmer, Archie R. was a farm worker, and Vangie, Flossie, Parks, Deal, and Clark were at school 5 months during the past year. Martha A.’s brother Eli Deal and his family lived immediately adjacent.
On 16 Apr 1910, Theodore (51) and Martha A. (43) Jones lived with their children and step-children in Clark Twp., Dewey Co., OK. Flossie was 20, Deal was 19, Parks and Clark were both 17, and Foster was 14. Martha A. is listed as the mother of 2 children, 2 of whom were alive in 1910. Theodore was a farmer and owned his farm, which was mortgaged. Flossie was a teacher at the common school, unemployed on 15 Apr 1910 and for 15 weeks of the preceeding year. Deal and Parks were laborers on the home farm, and Clark was a farm laborer working on another farm. All were literate; Flossie, Clark, and Foster attended school during the past year.
On 23 Jan 1920, Theodore (62) and Martha A. (52) Jones lived with their granddaughter Sibyl L. Jones (6) in a rental house in Putnam, Harrison Twp. (Dewey) OK. All could read and write, and Sibyl attended school during the past fall. Theodore worked for wages as a hardware salesman.
On 10 April 1930, Martha A. Jones lived with her granddaughter Sybil L. in a rental house (with no radio) at 445 North Pine, Tonkawa (Kay) OK. Deal and Mable Jones were their neighbors.
