  		Joseph A Deal family history in "Harrison County, Iowa History" (1891), pp. 857-858. INTRODUCTION: The entry for Joseph A. Deal, the son of John Deal (1799-1880) and grandson of William Deal (b. Abt. 1770 North Carolina d. Putnam, IN 1838), mainly described the relocation of the John Deal family from Indiana to Iowa. This account raises three questions about the lineage of this family. Besides "North Carolina," there was no mention of the birth/death information for grandfather William Deal or even the given name of his wife, grandmother Eve (Decker) Deal. The names of John Deal, Elizabeth Deal, and three other children of grandfather William Deal were shown. However, the married name of daughter Eliza Jane was said to be "Groven," rather than "Grogan." A sixth child, Andrew Deal, was omitted altogether. Abt. 1775).] "Lincoln, NC: Christopher Decker free white males: one under age 10, one 10-15, one 16-25, one 26-44; free white females: one under age 10, one 26-44, one 45+" On the same sheet for 1810, there were four William Deals, two George Deals, and one Jacob Deal, all apparently living near each other. Review of census information about the Deal families in Lincoln County, North Carolina: In the 1790 Census, there was one Jacob Deal; in 1800 two George, one Jacob, one Peter, and two William Deals; in 1820 one John, one Peter, one Solomon, and one William Deal; in 1830 two Deal widows, one David, two George, two Jacob, one John, one Matthias, one Simon, and two William Deals.
  		U.S. Census Clay County, IN 1830: William Deal (1770-1838) "William Deal males 50-60 one; females 10-15 one, 50-60 one." William Deal, if this census entry is accurate, was born between 1770 and 1780. Eve Decker was age 90 in 1860 and thus born Abt. 1770. For that reason, William Deal's birth date has been listed as "Abt. 1770."
