Family Members Lost in Holocaust (Shoa)

Hirshel Sagalovich his wife and three children were murdered. He was the brother of Rose, Sara, and Sam Segal
Henoch's daughter, Sarah Horwitz, married Aaron Rubin in Rezekne and they had five children. They were all murdered in the Holocaust.
Bernie Dorin passed away 16 December 2008, at his home in Torrance, California. He was the principal collaborator in the Horwitz family history project.  He was a  brilliant, thoughtful, and creative collaborator. He is survived by his son Greg Dorin and his family and his daughter Beth Dorin, and his two brothers Hal Dorin and Bob Dorin. I will remember him and be grateful to him forever. -- Dave Howard
Anthony Ryan (Rihanek) Edge passed away 17 January 2008 at his home in Florida. His birth father and his only sibling, his brother, both predeceased him. He is survived by his mother, our cousin, Aliene Edge, and his adoptive father, Steven Edge. Click on his name to read the beautiful poem Aliene wrote in his memory.
Joni Malia Rillamas passed away 27 May 2007 in Hawaii at the age of 32. She died of natural causes and is survived by her parents Rosemarie Elaine Howard and John Anthony Rillamas and her brother Keoni and her sister Nicole.
Jack Capsuto passed away 4 April 2007. He is survived by his wife Mickey Capsuto. Mickey is one of our Segal "cousins" related to us by the marriage of Sara Segal and Max Segal.
Kathryn Anne Goldring Fromberg lost her battle with cancer on 19 July 2006. She fought long and hard for 9 years. She is survived by her husband Howard and her 12 year old son Daniel and 9 year old daughter Dena and 19 year old Scott who she raised as a son. Her mother-in-law is our Bobbie Fromberg.

If you would like to do something of meaning in her memory, her favorite charity has been The Jonsson  Cancer Center Foundation at UCLA/Sarcoma Research.  Their address is 8-950 Factor Building, Box 951780 Los Angeles, CA 90095-1780.

Mary Ellen Johnson Dorin, age 72,  wife of Bernie Dorin for 49 years, mother of Greg and Beth, grandmother of Kathryn, sister of Lois, passed away April 15, 2005, in Torrance, California.
Barbara Jean Harps Howard, age 72, wife of Glenn Howard, mother of Steven, Gregory, Jennifer  Keith, and eight grandchildren. She died unexpectedly while recovering from knee replacement on April 15, 2005, Laguna Hills, CA.
Berle Schwartz, age 73, husband of Marilyn, nee Chemino; father of David (Wendy), Steven and Mark;  grandfather of Jake, Maddie and Emily; brother of Marty (Barbara), Marilyn Kramer-Baumgart and the late Raymond.
Jill Wallace Helberg age 47, daughter of Ralph Wallace and Sophie Laibovitz, sister of Richard Wallace, wife of Erwin Helberg, and the mother of Scott Helberg and Rebecca Helberg died on Monday, June 7, 2004.

Steven Scott Howard, age 37, son of David Steven Howard and Susan Woodland Howard of San Jose, CA, brother of Jonathan Philip Howard, of Prospect Heights, IL, grandson of Harry Henry Howard,  and great-grandson of Abe Rafael Horwitz, died of natural causes at his home in Las Vegas, NV on Monday, May 17, 2004. Website in his honor Dark Optimist

Esther Brotman Horwitz widow of Henry Horwitz DDS of San Jose, CA mother of Richard Horwitz and Barbara Herz, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away in May 2004.
